Day 5: Riviera - Butrint - Saranda

Today we discover the Albanian Riviera. This region is considered one of the most beautiful ones in Albania, with typical Mediterranean landscapes. The olive trees and the blue-turquoise color of the Ionnian sea will accompany us along the way through small and typical villages of the south. The mountains meet the sea, the landscapes are splendid.

The archaeological site of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, is an ancient open-air city that bears witness to centuries of human occupation, as the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans successively occupied the site! Moreover, did you know that Racine referred to Butrint in his work Andromache? The Lion Gate is well hidden, but still standing!

Departure for Saranda, a seaside town opposite the island of Corfu. Saranda is fortunate to be located in one of the most beautiful regions of Albania, the Albanian Riviera. This town was known in ancient times as Onhezmi and its small port was a communication bridge between Corfu and the Epirotes tribes. Visit of the city, walk along the seaside and the many terraces on the seafront.
